The Nigerian
Nightmare
will always
be the
premiere
player
on this
Chiefs
squad,
but I
can't
deny the
geriatric
who kept
this team
rolling
despite
Okoye
missing
about
3 games
to injury
and a
6.23 40.
He's come
a long
way from
the guy
who was
flinging
the ball
around
for Tampa
Bay in
the 80s
with Michael
Vick-like
accuracy.

The Kansas City Chiefs
started off the 1991
run of teams in this
little experiment
of mine, and they
got things off on
the right foot. They've
got a solid playbook
with decent runs and
a good variety in
the pass plays. Steve
De Berg was the big
surprise here; I thought
he'd be coordinating
games of "Three Flies
Up" with whoever lined
up against him, but
instead he finished
with a stellar 197.8
rating thanks to 51
TD and only 4 INT.
The man I was most
looking forward to,
Christian Okoye, didn't
disappoint, when he
could play. Injuries
limited him to about
13 games, and he wasn't
in Good/Excellent
condition very often,
but he still ran for
1309 and a 10.1 avg/att.
Word was unspectacular.
Paige was quietly
effective. The team
as a whole fumbled
18 times during the
season, a high number,
but they only saw
4 injuries (Okoye
twice, McNair twice).
Defensively, again
KC was simply solid.
I more or less used
a 50/50 combo of Derrick
Thomas and Dan Saleaumua.
I thought DT would
block a few more PAT/FGs,
but the one FG he
did block was a potential
game-winner in week
17. |
