Who the
hell is
Roy Green?
He's the
team MVP
of this
sorry
squad,
that's
who. I
was thinking
Johnny
Johnson
would
take the
honor
for the
team before
the season
started,
but 3
injuries
and 8
fumbles
later,
it was
actually
Roy Green
who emerged
as the
cream
of the
mediocre
crop.
He did
haul in
61 catches,
which
is, of
this writing,
the record.
Still,
this team
is so
poor,
I was
actually
considering
giving
this award
to Vai
Sikahema
for his
one kick
return
TD. Nonetheless,
congratulations,
Roy.

The Phoenix Cardinals...were
terrible. Everything
about them. I can't
stress how bad a team
is if I go 11-5 with
them on the ultra-easy
settings that is Tecmo
Super Bowl. Their
playbook is a joke.
I've always big a
big Johnny Johnson
fan on this game,
but this playbook
ties both hands behind
his back. Of the four
runs, one is the worthless
reverse for the ultra-speedy
Ricky Proehl, another
is the "One Set
Back Dive" that
will never yield more
than 2 yards after
week 6, one is the
obligatory "Pitch
Left Fake" which
only works if your
OL isn't that of the
Phoenix Cardinals,
and one is the half-way-decent
"FB Off Tackle
Right." After
week 8, your only
real option is the
off tackle run, and
it seems the computer
knows this. On top
of that, Johnson fumbled
8 times and was injured
3 times.
The passing game is
only marginally less
offensive. Timm Rosenbach
makes you yearn for
the days of Neil Lomax,
and his playbook is
no help. You gotta
love the flea ficker,
especially after week
2 when it NEVER WORKS.
The "One Back
Flare A" is the
only non play action
pass of the other
three options, and
it's only got three
available receivers.
And for the Cardinals,
I would be remiss
if I didn't mention
that "play-action"
is another way of
saying "sacked"
or "intercepted."
You see all the receivers
running short routes
while your QB is scrambling,
which leads to statistical
anomalies like Roy
Green setting the
receptions record
with 61 yet failing
to crack the 1,000
yard barrier.
Defensively, the Cards aren't that bad. Probably middle of the pack. Averaging their player ratings puts them
at 15th of 28 teams, defensively. In my personal rating system, they actually drop down to 18th, but I can't say
I was mortified by their defense as I was the offense.
